European Sustainable Use Group (ESUG), which coordinates Pro-Coast, has a wide European network of experts, currently 98 members from 27 European countries, and 23 more from across the world. With participation in European Research Projects since Framework 4, expertise in agriculture, fisheries, forestry and wildlife resources, including plants and fungi, couples with fieldwork or wildlife management experience and skills in national and international governmental negotiations.  ESUG is a support organisation of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

 

Universität Leipzig (ULEI) and more specifically the Leipzig Research Centre Global Dynamics is an institution dedicated to the study of globalisation projects in the past and present in a broad interdisciplinary cooperation.

 

Frederick University (FredU) is a private university in Cyprus, with a Nature Conservation Unit (NCU) that specialises in biodiversity conservation, environmental education and natural resources management.

 

The University of Crete (UoC) and its Department of Sociology, is a research-oriented institution which supports and hosts research, training, education, awareness raising and dissemination activities. Members of the UoC research team are highly experienced in implementing quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods in the social sciences. In parallel, they have strong theoretical backgrounds in matters of social equality and social transitions.

 

Fundacion Cartif (CAR) is a leading Spanish Applied Research Centre in terms of R&D and technology transfer activities. CARTIF is the first Technology Center with a specific NBS Laboratory (NBS-LAB) in which different renaturing research activities are being developed and tested.

 

Coventry University (CU) and more specifically the Centre for Trust, Peace and Social Relations (CTPSR) brings together expertise from across the social sciences and humanities to drive progressive change and strengthen human security and resilience. Through its focus on relationships, reconciliation, and trust, this Centre champions creative thinking and innovative research which will focus on tackling the key issues surrounding trust and the contemporary challenges facing a diverse and connected world.

 

TERO is a research and development consultancy, offering a combination of expertise in business and technology. The services of Tero span the full life cycle of a project, from conceptualisation and strategic planning to project implementation and intellectual property rights management. Tero has developed online applications for a variety of domains, such as crowdsourcing and location based services, digital humanities and digital preservation, social network analytics, and environmental policy support. Tero is a long-term collaborator of ESUG in European Research projects.

 

Costa Nostrum (CN) was established in 2015 as an awarded start-up company, with the purpose of promoting and implementing the private certification standard “Certification Standard for Sustainable Management and Development of the Mediterranean Beaches – Costa Nostrum Sustainable Beaches'', through the effect of which the sustainable management and development of each beach may be achieved in an objective manner and succeeding to “convert” a simple beach into a worldwide top destination, with a sustainability certification.

 

PR&More (PRM) is a communications agency and consultancy focusing on the rapidly growing segments of the market such as environment and sustainability, smart technology, renewable energy and waste management while during the last years is dealing with regeneration and transformation projects.

 

IBERCIVIS (IBE) is the national private non-for-profit foundation devoted to citizen science in Spain and deploy, support and promote in science with research and educational purposes. They are the national institution of Spain promoting citizen science and run the portal Observatory of Citizen Science in Spain.

 

The University of Salento - Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences and Technologies (UniSal) counts on more than 120 permanent staff members and more than 50 researchers with non-permanent positions. It includes a set of satellite infrastructures, spread along the Salento Peninsula in Apulia (Italy), and has a triple mission of Education, Research, and Connecting science and society through entrepreneurship and outreach.

 

The University of Bergen (UiB) - Department of Sociology provides all standard tools for social research, project management and communication for carrying out the project. Moreover, it hosts the International Migration and Ethnic Relations Research Unit which supports research addressing human and social factors contributing to biodiversity loss and enabling biodiversity preservation and restoration. It will also provide a significant forum for getting early feedback and disseminating findings.

 

Ellinogermaniki Agogi (EA) is one of the most innovative schools in Europe with more than 2500 students and 250 teachers in different disciplines. EA is the founding member of the European School Innovation Academy (ESIA - https://esia.ea.gr), which is a network exceeding 10.000 school teachers. EA has a very strong interest and rich research and development activity in the fields of Inquiry Based Science Education (IBSE), Project Based Learning (PBL), and STEM education in combination with digital, online based learning environments and tools that use virtual reality, augmented reality and story-based education. Overall, EA has experience in actively extending the dialogue between scientific and the educational community, enforcing the collaboration between schools and research organisations, centres and museums, and helping young people to acquire better understanding of the role of science in the society.

 

Atlantic Technological University (ATU) has been carrying out environmental research since the 1980’s. More specifically, the Centre for Environmental Research Innovation and Sustainability (CERIS) consists of an innovative and expert team of researchers, academic staff and research students providing key solutions in Applied Ecology and Resource Management. CERIS focuses on research, best practice and policy solutions for the management of land, water, and natural resources.

 

Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech) is a research-based university that responds actively to the needs of the rapidly developing society and is involved in tackling the challenges of the digital era. Tartu College of TalTech was founded in 2005, it is a branch of the university that has the competence to solve problems to integrate management and nature conservation values at the community as well as regional level.

 

Univerza na Primorskem (UP) is a centre of knowledge implementing European educational strategies. UP provides an active, interdisciplinary research and study environment based on two fundamental pillars: mathematics, natural sciences and technology, and humanities and social sciences. UP also aims to produce a beneficial co-existence and close collaboration with industry.

 

Total PR (TOT) provides exclusive and customised services as sustainable PR & marketing specialists. Services aim to promote their commitment to triple bottom line sustainability. Moreover, they assist other brands promote their focus on sustainability and have worked across a range of sectors including manufacturing, travel, retail and construction.

 

The Chamber of Economy of Montenegro (CEM) directs and conducts its activities by representing the general interests of the economy and all economic entities, enabling companies to participate in managing the economy and thus preserve their freedom, encouraging production in the economy, presenting business opportunities and fostering business ethics and practises.

 

Friends of the Earth Malta (FoEM) is an independent organisation that works with several social and environmental NGOs. Friends of the Earth International includes groups from 75 countries and 6 continents, making it the World’s largest grassroots environmental network. FoEM creates and participates in vibrant campaigns, raises awareness on a number of pertinent national and international issues, and mobilises people to participate in decision-making processes. Moreover, FoEM has diverse educational methods to reach out mostly to adults as well as youth, especially focusing on marginalised groups, empowering them to work together for a more sustainable future.

 

Anatrack was a spin-out in 2000 from the United Kingdom Natural Environment Research Council's Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (now UKCEH) that conducts research more widely on environmental topics. Anatrack is committed to science-based conservation that uses new technologies to integrate local-level results for decision making at all levels from policy-making to field applications.

The Pro-Coast consortium represents a truly interdisciplinary group of highly competent and experienced research teams composed specifically for the project. There are 20 partners across 14 different countries, from north to south and east to west of Europe. Nine partners engage with local communities for case studies. Each partner is contributing specific knowledge to meet the project’s objectives, combining their know-how and previous work in the fields of psychology, sociology, economics, marketing, certification, ecology, modelling and software engineering. This is a key for the project’s success. Pro-Coast also provides a great opportunity to share research and best practice among European research groups, for a concrete and cost-effective public-private partnership to support the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030.
